incredible news

Just moments ago, The United State House of Representatives voted 317 to 93 in favor of a bill that makes it illegal for banks and credit card companies to forward payments to online gambling sites — a move that will effectively disconnect most Americans from Internet sites to play online poker, place bets on sports or wager at cyber-casinos.

does anybody know which kind of influence that decission will have for the tradesports/ intrade business. As far as it is known, most members come from US?

thx for any feedback

I'm with Winner's Curse...

People, people, people... relax!

IF the Senate passes this thing and it gets reconciled and Bush signs it, it'll still be a while until it goes into legal effect.

And for something that requires regulatory oversight, it can take a long time for the rules and procedures to be worked out.

Finally, getting money out from TS or elsewhere is very unlikely to be a problem, since there are many cashout methods. For those of you who have never seen a check from TS, they don't say ONLINE GAMBLING WINNINGS on them. They don't say anything other than AIB.

My guess is that NETeller is praying for this thing to go through, because it will just shift more money their way.

Bottom line: Don't worry, but DO contact your Senator and do it now. Calls are good. Faxes are better. Letters are even better.

there are much more pro's for the bill than cons.....sad, but true

The Offline (Las Vegas ;-)) Lobby has Billions of Dollars and from all the articles i've read in the past days i've changed my opinion - now i'm convinced that they will win.

restrictions will come, that's certain, also tax and prevention against manipulation, money laudering and stronger observations of "insider" trading.

Trades will be settled in the future

I'd recommend tradesports to focalize to europe, there is enough room to make money ;-)

=> I'll watch 'em

That debate is over, but bets are far from off. After the 2001 action by U.S. banks, the industry recovered, thanks to online vendors such as Neteller (NLR), FirePay, and CentralCoin, which allow transactions from gambling sites. Known as "e-wallets," these companies let customers put money into an account and transfer funds from online sites into those accounts. The sites also allow users and Web sites to transfer funds to each other, enabling gambling sites to deduct and add money to users' accounts. Shares of Neteller, one of the largest e-wallets, fell 7.3% on the London Stock Exchange on concern over the bill.

Did you read the articles about betonsports?

One Arguments for the arrestment is amongst others, that a huge amount of the sales were generated by us users and as long as betonsports has not the required licenses the business is illegal.

News from Tradesports...

The chief executive of online wagering firm, Trade Exchange Network, which takes sports and financial wagers from the US, has confirmed that the company will continue its Dublin based operations, despite mounting pressure from the US authorities.

CEO, John Delaney, has pointed to legal advice which seems to indicate that whilst Trade Exchange Network operates as an exchange and not a bookmaker, it cannot be bound by the US Wire Act, the current weapon of choice to disarm online gambling operations.

“There is no Act in the US which prevents the punter in the US from placing a bet with the offshore book. The Act prohibits the offshore bookmaker providing the service and we are not a bookmaker,” clarified Delaney.

In recent weeks, the US Department of Justice indicted several parties on 22 counts of racketeering, conspiracy and fraud, which lead to the arrest of BetonSports CEO David Carruthers, who remains in detention in a Texan jail

Does anybody knows how Delaneys plans look like if american banks and e-wallets will aggravate their transaction behaviour.

As far as i know a few credit card companies using special codes to prohibit transfers to gambling/ betting companies.
