GFT - Spammails

Geschrieben

Dear user GFT Forex, Paul Schulz.

Update your account information.

Please read the documentation.

Im Anhang hängt eine PDF. Auf keinen Fall versuchen zu öffnen. Das Teil ist hochgradig verseucht!

Viele Grüße,

Rumpel

Dear,

GFT has recently been targeted in a series of phishing attempts. Phishing is an identity theft tactic in which the attacker sends official-looking email forged to appear as if it had been sent by a service provider (typically a financial institution). In this recent attempt, the emails claim to originate from GFT, and ask recipients to update their personal information or their Dealbook® software using included attachments. Executing the attachments will potentially install spyware on the recipient’s computer that will attempt to collect personal information.

Phishing is a wide-spread nuisance to which many large financial institutions (Bank of America, Wells Fargo, HSBC, Suntrust, eTrade, and Instaforex to name a few) have fallen prey in recent history. In all of these instances, it is highly unlikely that the email addresses were obtained from the institutions themselves. While GFT will continue to investigate, it is important to note that email addresses for phishing attempts are obtained in a number of ways including harvesting from public web sites, newsgroups, forums, and social networking sites. Fortunately, the reported distribution of the GFT phishing emails has been extremely limited. Recipients have included GFT employees, individuals with no relationship to GFT, and an extremely low percentage (less than one tenth of one percent) of GFT customers. GFT protects customer personal information with multiple layers of defense, and commissions an annual SAS 70 Type II audit to provide independent verification on both the design and operation of security controls.

To protect themselves, GFT customers should take the following measures at a minimum:

  • Never provide sensitive personal information (passwords, account info, social security numbers, etc.) in response to an unsolicited request whether via email, phone, or otherwise. No legitimate financial services company or merchant would ever request that information openly through any of those channels. If you believe that the request may be legitimate, contact the company yourself via their main phone number to validate.
  • Never click links or open attachments in a suspicious email.
  • Log in to your accounts regularly and review your statements for suspicious activity.
  • Keep your web browsers, operating systems, and anti-virus/anti-malware systems up to date.

GFT may contact customers from time to time in an effort to update our records. However, GFT will not ask for updated information without explaining why the information is needed. Also, we will not ask for information such as a login name or password.

If you are ever unsure if a representative of GFT is requesting information from you, you should contact us using the information provided on our website to verify the request and not the contact information provided in the email you received.

Kind Regards,

GFT

Rumpel
